Captain Rich and Captain Carol met in Costa Rica and have built their lives around the water including working at the High Adventure Boy Scout Camp, Sea Base together in Islamorada, Fl before moving to Oriental, NC.
Captain Rich grew up on the water in central Florida scuba diving, fishing and boating. He joined the US Navy at the ripe old age of 17. This is where he found his true passion for the ocean, and in his mind, the best mode of transportation to visit new points of interest.
After dabbling in the aerospace business for a while, Captain Rich started racing sailboats in the Tampa Bay area. He decided to turn his love for the ocean into a full time career. He raced, delivered and worked on the water from Louisiana to Cuba to the Eastern and Southern Caribbean. He pursued his 100 Ton Master Captains License and decided with his new bride, Carol (also a captain) to proceed south to the Florida Keys to operate dive charters for the BSA (Florida Sea Base). He was soon asked to take the position as the sailing director at the Florida Sea Base. Operations included scheduling 53 sailboats from 40’-128’ in six different marinas from Key Largo to Key West. This is where he met both Captains Derrek and Stephanie.
Most of Captain Rich’s adult life has involved boating. He looks forward to sharing his expertise with either sailing instructions, power boat classes, to routine (or beyond routine) maintenance.
Captain Carol holds a masters captains license and worked as a captain for the dive boat fleet in Islamorada, FL with the Boy Scouts for over 8 years. She is highly skilled in her docking skills, navigational skills, seamanship skills, and yacht maintenance. Because of this, she successfully managed a fleet of 36′ – 46′ Newton Yachts and 28′ Dusky’s as the Marine Superintendent. Carol is a registered ER nurse and certified ASA sailing instructor who you will find riding throughout the country side on her road bike in her spare time.
